VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH - August 2008 - BILL BROWN
The BTCNJ Executive Board is pleased to award Bill Brown, who has been a member since May, 2000, Volunteer of the Month for August. He was nominated by Marian Calabro and Bernie Libster. Here is what they write about Bill:
We nominate Bill Brown as Volunteer Of The Month. He is the unofficial co-leader on every ride he attends. I'm sure every ride leader is as glad to see him as we are, because he is always such a great help. Need a hand fixing a flat or troubleshooting other mechanical woes? Bill will unobtrusively lend an expert hand. Need someone to usher the group through a tricky turn or low-visibility situation? Bill will ride ahead and handle the situation safely. His long experience as a professional truck driver makes him highly aware of road issues. In addition, Bill is always friendly and full of interesting information. (Ask him about "jake breaks.") I'll never forget the time he heard a train whistle in the distance on a ride near Neshanic Station. The tracks in that area do not have traffic gates. From the whistle alone, Bill calculated exactly when the train would reach the next track we'd be crossing. He was spot-on (and we got there before the train did). Last but not least, the cooler of cold water he keeps in his Subaru has revived more than one flagging C* rider at the end of summer rides.
Thanks, Bill!
